Tummy Tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a popular plastic surgery procedure that is used to restore the abdominal profile. Tummy tuck surgery involves removing excess fat tissue and skin from the middle and lower abdomen in addition to tightening the abdominal wall muscles.

Stomach fat, or belly fat, is also known as “stubborn fat” – it can be hard to remove excess fat around the stomach area through diet or exercises. Abdominoplasty surgery may be a good option for people who are a little overweight and want to get rid of excess fat and skin from their abdomen. It worths mentioning that abdominoplasty should not be considered as a weight loss method or as a way to treat obesity. It is also recommended that patients should be a stable weight at the time of the surgery.

Tummy Tuck after pregnancy, also called Mommy Makeover or Mommy Tuck, has gained a popularity among many women today. Thousands of women turn to Mommy Makeover surgery every year in order to restore their bodies after pregnancy.

Mini Tummy Tuck vs Full Tummy Tuck

Mini Tummy Tuck

Mini Tummy Tuck procedure only targets the lower abdomen – skin below patient’s belly button. A small incision is made at the bikini line just above the pubic bone. Incision is smaller compared to Full Tummy Tuck procedure. Excess fat in the lower abdomen is removed, skin and abdomen muscles are tightened. The surgery usually takes less than two hours and is performed under general anaesthesia.

As only the lower abdomen is targeted, Mini Tummy Tuck may not be sufficient for skin tightening and removing stretch marks. In these cases, a Full Tummy Tuck is recommended.

Full Tummy Tuck

Full Tummy Tuck procedure targets both the middle and lower abdomens. Usually an incision is made from one hip bone to the other. Loose skin is separated from the abdominal wall in order to tighten abdomen muscles. The surgeon then removes excess skin and fat tissue. The surgery takes 2 to 3 hours and it is performed under general anaesthesia.

Depending on the expected results and the surgery type (mini tummy tuck or full tummy tuck), the surgery takes around 5 hours. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia. First the surgeon cuts the abdominal area usually from one hip to another. Then loose skin is seperated from abdominal walls and the surgeon tightens the muscles. This will create a firm abdomen. To prevent infection, the area will be wrapped by bandages and the recovery period starts.

10 days before the surgery, please stop taking any blood thinners such as aspirins, vitamins and herbal teas. 8 hours before the surgery please stop smoking and do not take any liquids or food.
