Cataract surgery (cataract eye surgery) is performed under local anesthetisa. The eye or both of the eyes become numb by injections or by special eye drops. The operation takes around 1 hour. Since the eyes will be numb, patients most likely feel no pain.

The doctor makes a tiny incision into the cornea and breaks the cataract by using a tool. And then the natural lens is replaced with a plastic one. Cataract surgery does not require an overnight stay at hospital.
